What are adrenaline sports?
They encompass the fastest growing outdoor sports in Britain today – including dry-slope skiing, mountain biking, water skiing, quad biking, climbing, trials biking, horse riding, hill walking, BMX and skateboarding. It encompasses pretty much any physical activity that you could undertake on land, air and water. It does not include any ball sports, unless you’re in one: Zorbing!
By building on a unique location and a network of existing activity, Pennine Lancashire has the opportunity to become England’s playground for these activities. We can reinvigorate our economy and recreate our image. The Pennine Lancashire Adrenaline Gateway will deliver a unique leisure and cultural experience.
We will make a wide range of adrenaline sports activities accessible to millions of North West residents. We can provide every opportunity to participants of every level and background – from beginners to the elite – to learn and practise adrenaline sports. We will bring the widest possible range of outdoor athletic, leisure and cultural activities within reach of everyone in the Northwest of England and beyond.
The Pennine Lancashire Adrenaline Gateway is a partnership and destination brand. We will work with partners in the private, public and community sector who will lead the development of our offer. Our job is to communicate the outdoor lifestyle sports offer in Pennine Lancashire and coordinate the work of the partnership.
For example, part of our project portfolio is the development of mountain bike trails in the quarries above Bacup. These are being developed by Rossendale Leisure Trust and Lancashire County Council. The Adrenaline Gateway will promote their use by the public, national sports bodies and organise and manage an events schedule.
The Pennine Lancashire Adrenaline Gateway project will let everyone else in England know what we know already – Pennine Lancashire is one the most exciting places in our country to visit and play!
